From what I know, it's been testing for a while now and everything looks good. It should be shipping very soon. |

The 480's are better for GPU computing (CUDA).

Ah! We'll it's up to him. We're still fine tuning the system now. It was working perfectly fine for 4 days straight with F@H until it give a hiccup. Ideally, we would like to see it run for 5-6 days straight, even a week before we feel it's ready to ship.

Hey got the pc, the 480s are doing great, I don't know what kind of a test hardwarecanucks did, but there is not that big of a difference between 480 and 580 in folding, specially if you just oc the shader a bit.
One of the 480s I think is bad, its stuck at 13000 ppd while the other 3 are doing 16000 ppd, and the one that is not doing as much ppd is also 10 degrees warmer, its max is at 70c while the other 3 card's max temp is 60c. long story short its running great for 2 days now with the cpu and gpus under 100% load. will post picks and review when I get a chance, but at the end I'm happy. (just have to change out that one bad card soon). If you want to see it, click on the pic in my sig. those are the old pics, its got push pull on both rads now. Great to hear that you have your PC finally! Hopefully, the one card that is faulty will be replaced soon. I know that effective folding is very important to you! It won't be long until the monster machine you own will be folding and serving as an important source of science that will be of great importance as the days goes by.
A lot of us have been following this thread for a long time! Nice to hear about the positive updates!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@DST4ME,
I'm glad you got the system back and it's up and running. I'm not 100% sure that the one video card is defective? That's the first time I've seen a GPU compute slower and be bad. Perhaps the clock speed on the card is lower or maybe it's the limitation of the motherboard/chipset/ that isn't' allowing that much bandwidth? Reason being is that, I know we extensively tested the machine and it was solid here. |

Thanks guys
@Ninjastryk, lol ya fingers crossed @Cretae, thx, ya healing up well, can't really complain. @justin, yes you can't oc just the shader, the core gets oced also. once I get everything setup I will post pics, I really love it. @Onkel_Ken, good to hear from you, I will ask for a replacement when it can't fold anymore, it won't be too long, maybe I can see if they will give me a 580 for replacement instead and I will install the WB and etc myself on it. Over all I'm very happy, it took a while but we did keep making changes, so some of that time taken is because of the changes. @rholyrag, will post pics and reviews soon enough. @Alex, all cards are the same core/shader, yet this one is stuck at 13000 as mentioned, don't take my word for it, wait and see, when cards start to do this, that means they are on their way out, first they do low ppd, soon after that they won't be able to fold at all, and instead will return errors, there is also the fact that only that card has higher temps. As far as the things you pointed out: the clock speed, as mentioned they are all set to 800/1600 core/shader. the limitation of the motherborad can't be it. 1. this board is a 4x classified. 2. As for limitation of bandwidth with the mobo, for folding you don't need much bandwidth at all, with folding all you need is the bandwidth of a pci-e x1. 3. As for any limitations, this card does the same thing, when its running on its own and no other cards or folding program is running. Trust me when I tell you something is wrong with this card, I have seen this too many times, I will wait till it can't fold anymore before I request a replacement, I don't really care about the points, if its folding then its sending the info that is needed back, once it can't fold, then it will be a problem. |

@AndydViking, I have a lot on my plate boss, if I'm not here, its not because I don't want to be here, I just for the current time don't have the free time I had before, but if you need help with something, I will be more then happy to help you out,just have to give me time to catchup on the new hardware out, and you been here long enough to know you are not a noob
@Alex, thanks, ya I think I will ask for a 580 for the replacement of this one and will drop the block in myself, that hopefully will save you guys some money and me some time, BTW, just incase I was not clear, I'm sure it left DS working perfectly, probably shipping messed up that one card, we will ride it for as long as it will let us, once it can't fold anymore, we can switch it with a 580, that would be great, I just have to buy new blocks once again, lol that would be the third 4 pack of WB for the gpus I have bought |

Love everything to be honest with you, max temps on gpu are 60c and on cpu its 70c, and thats after 3 days of 24/7 full load on both with fah, all are at 99 - 100% usage the whole time, if the room temp goes to 75f then the max temps go even lower, and the psu is just a champ, its doing all this and has room for more, you can't even hear its fan.
the whole system is quiet, comparing to my other systems that don't have LC on gpus, if 10 is loudest and 1 is quiet, then this system is a 2, and the old systems I have without LC on gpus are a 8 or 9, when the gpus are under full load and their fan is going at 100%. of course 2 of my Dell old pcs have died, one is mobo the other is psu, they are a pain to find parts for, lol, I'm so tired of messing with pc part Edited by DST4ME - 15 Dec 2010 at 2:39pm |

the EX is the server based, instead wait for Haswell if you want 8 cores, it will have it by default, and should be out in 2013. Thats what I'm waiting for now, and hopefully new southbridge, and along with with real sata/usb/pci 3.0.
Glad to hear the beast is still going strong |
